Westdale Co-operative Preschool offers a half-day program running Monday to Friday. We welcome children from 18 months to 5 years old. Families can sign up for their choice of days for their child to attend for the year.
Preschool is the start of an important new chapter in your child's life. It's an introduction to an educational environment, a chance to experience independence, and an opportunity to form friendships and build social skills. It helps children to prepare for a more formal education with ease.
A day at Westdale
9:00-10:30AM - Preschool Room
9:00-915AM flexible arrival time
Arrival (meet & greet, play-based centres)
Play-based centres: dramatic/dress-up area and kitchen centre, puzzles, play dough, construction toys, cutting, pasting, colouring, science activities, book centre
10:30AM-11:00AM - Washroom Break & Snack Time (at Table in Gym)
Children help to prepare and serve the snack each day, from making mini pizzas to blueberry muffins
We create a special and colourful snack menu on a three week rotation, with a warm snack once a week (on different days) for children to enjoy different flavours and textures
Children are provided the opportunity to socialize and practice table manners, along with fine motor skills and co-ordination
11:00AM-11:50AM - Gym Time
Children work together to help set up for gym activities following snack time
Gross motor activities - climber, riding toys, co-operative group games/sports
Play-based centres - painting; sensory bin (water/cornmeal/rice, ect), blocks, cars/trucks, musical instruments, etc
11:50AM-12:00PM - End of Day
Circle time with songs, games, stories
Good-bye song
12:00-12:15PM flexible pick up time
